Lackford Lakes was created from former gravel pits by the River Lark at Lackford TL800706. The reserve was originally 11 hectares when Bernard Tickner donated the land in 1976 and in 200 a further 90 hectares was donated by RMC. It is a combination of wetland and meadows, reservoir, scrub, reed bed, streams and wet meadows. The site is managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust (SWT) where they have a visitor centre. There are a number of trails around the site including the Kingfisher trail which is accessible by wheelchair.
