SOG Rookery Survey 2015

In 2015 it will be 40 years since Suffolk Ornithologists’ Group carried out a British Trust for Ornithology organised Rookery survey, the results of which were published in a SOG publication, The Rook In Suffolk by MJF Jeanes and R Snook.
The aim of this survey is get an up-to-date picture of the rookeries in Suffolk, using recent data from the BTO Breeding Bird Atlas 2007-2011 and Suffolk Bird Reports comparing populations then and now, rookery number and sizes.

Some members have already volunteered to cover some sites including the above mentioned Mike Jeanes who will cover the Newmarket area and Jamie Bruce Lockhart who will survey around Saxmundham, having carried out a study there previously, the results being published in the 2009 Suffolk Bird Report.

The survey should be taken between 10th and 30th of April 2015.
